The report is the result of the Two-Phase\u00a0 21<sup>st<\/sup> Century Initiative that is a response to President Obama\u2019s education agenda and challenge for community colleges.\u00a0 The goal of President Obama&#8217;s education agenda is to educate an additional 5 million students and provide them with degrees, certificates or other credentials by 2020.\u00a0 To address this goal, the report presents a vision for re-imagining community colleges, anchored with the following directives:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<ul>\n<li><b>Redesign<\/b> the student educational experience<\/li>\n<li><b>Reinvent<\/b> institutional roles<\/li>\n<li><b>Reset<\/b> the system to create incentives for student and institution<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/blockquote>\n<h2>What is the status of the 21<sup>st<\/sup> Century Initiative?<\/h2>\n<p>At this point, Phase One: &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.aacc.nche.edu\/AboutCC\/21st_century\/Pages\/listen.aspx\"> The Listening Tour<\/a>&#8221; and Phase Two, the construction of the report, are complete.\u00a0 \u00a0Following these two phases, nine teams have been convened to provide guidance and identify implementation challenges reported by AACC constituencies. \u00a0The implementation teams are organized in the following manner:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Team One:\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.aacc.nche.edu\/AboutCC\/21st_century\/implementation\/Pages\/team1.aspx\">Community College Completion Commitment<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Team Two: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.aacc.nche.edu\/AboutCC\/21st_century\/implementation\/Pages\/team2.aspx\">Re-Imagining Pathways for Students<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Team Three: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.aacc.nche.edu\/AboutCC\/21st_century\/implementation\/Pages\/team3.aspx\">Community College\/K-12 Collaboration for College Readiness<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Team Four: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.aacc.nche.edu\/AboutCC\/21st_century\/implementation\/Pages\/team4.aspx\">Developmental Education Redesign\u2013Resources for Community Colleges<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Team Five: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.aacc.nche.edu\/AboutCC\/21st_century\/implementation\/Pages\/team5.aspx\">Closing the Skills Gap<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Team Six: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.aacc.nche.edu\/AboutCC\/21st_century\/implementation\/Pages\/team6.aspx\">Policy and Advocacy Agenda for Reclaiming the American Dream<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Team Seven: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.aacc.nche.edu\/AboutCC\/21st_century\/implementation\/Pages\/team7.aspx\">Redefining Institutional Roles and Functions<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Team Eight: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.aacc.nche.edu\/AboutCC\/21st_century\/implementation\/Pages\/team8.aspx\">Accountability<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Team Nine: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.aacc.nche.edu\/AboutCC\/21st_century\/implementation\/Pages\/team9.aspx\">Faculty Engagement and Leadership Development<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>\u00a0What are 21<sup>st<\/sup> Century Initiative implementation options for your community college?<\/h2>\n<p>One track some community colleges have chosen to pursue is to use this framework for a campus-wide strategic planning effort. Another option is to contemplate the three imperatives in the report.\u00a0 Consider assessing the quality of your institute\u2019s student education experience.
